Windabrae Shelties is a small kennel where our dogs are our friends and companions first. We socialize our dogs and puppies to everything to make strong minded dogs. Our dogs go to matches, dog shows, obedience classes for socialization.
We are breeding to the American Shetland Sheepdog Association (ASSA) guidelines and the American Kennel Club (AKC) standard. We want the total sheltie, excellent temperaments, movement and structure.
All dogs are sold on a limited registration and with a spay/neuter clause in our contract.
We test all of our dogs for hip displasia (OFA), hypo-thyroidism, and eyes (CERF).
Windabrae Shelties is located in Idaho Falls, Idaho in the upper snake river valley in eastern Idaho. The city has a beautiful waterfall in the downtown area that is quite a tourist attraction and is also how the city got its name.
We are not natives to the area but we really love it here. We moved here when my husband retired from the Air Force in July of 1989 from South Carolina.
Until my husband and I moved to Idaho my only interest in dogs was as companion animals. I joined a the Upper Snake River Dog Training Club in 1991 and found out what I had been missing. I have always had a very deep love for all animals. I knew about obedience and this is where I started in dogs. Eventually with a sweet little girl named Abby, I got started in conformation. I really love conformation which is what I mostly do now. I have now been in Shelties sine 1991. My only regret is that I did not find the dog world much sooner. Boy what a wonderful world I had been missing.
We are quite involved in our local dog clubs. We belong to the Upper Snake River Valley Dog Training Club, and Eagle Rock Kennel Club. I am also a member of the nearest sheltie club Utah Shetland Sheepdog Association (Salt Lake City, Utah), and I am also a member of the American Shetland Sheepdog Association (parent club for Shelties).
